The PBP pumping systems consist of pumping equipment powered by an electrical panel which has an integrated Frequency Variator and programmable logic controllers. This makes it possible to maintain constant output pressure of the equipment against any disruption in the flow, alternatively you can control other variables such as levels and flow rates.

The system incorporates the protections and alarms required for optimal performance.

The PBP equipment of Fabelec possesses advanced features that traditional pressurization systems can’t overcome.

PANEL BOARD FOR FABELEC VARIABLE SPEED PUMPS

DESCTRIPTION:

This board is designed on the basis of control elements and power of last generation and allows the command of all pumps delivering voltages and frequencies variables for each pump system in order to regulate their speeds to keep constant the pressure supply. It includes protections for all pumps. Also performs automatic rotation of the pumps.

Applies inverters with modulation of width pulse with a carrier up to 15 Khz and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), both with EEPROM memory that doesn’t require back up on the cutting of electricity supply. It also provides a serial door RS-485 for its connection to SCADA systems-

It has a liquid crystal panel that allows viewing of their operating parameters such as voltage, current, power, energy, operating time, velocity, pressure, number of pumps in operation, recent failures, etc.

It has, on an optional basis, power limitation when it’s supplied by generator group or if it is in peak hours and in all models stops the pumps in the case of water over consumption.

In addition it provides connectivity for visual or audible alarm in case of failure of any pump, converter fails, low or high level of the pond and water over consumption.

There are strips for the connection of switches of tanks level (low level does not permit operation of the pumps and high level announces over tank level) and external alarm connection with a corresponding button muffler. It has also the splicing connector for pressure transmitter which must give a signal of 4-20 ma.

The frequency converter has protections of short circuit, overcurrent, over or low voltage, drop of a stage and asymmetry.

As well optionally provides protection for low or high voltage for the manual operation of the equipment.

Typical PBP Disposition System

There are different pressurization systems like pond pressure systems (hydropneumatic), tankless systems, pressurization systems with variable speed. But undoubtedly it is the latest system that has attracted attention mainly because of the clear benefits it provides to the rest of the alternatives:

  • Reduced installation space
  • Operation of pumps at the point of best efficiency
  • Continuous speed regulation.

PBP SYSTEMS ADVANCED FEATURES

With the advance in the control systems and performance, modern equipment of pressurization now have features impossible to overcome by traditional systems. The following describes some of these typical features in commercial equipment.

COMPENSATION FOR LINE LOSS
Often it is required to have constant pressure on a distant point at the exit of the pumping equipment in order to compensate the loss of load on the road. These equipments have the possibility to increase their pressure according to the flow demanded in a way of compensating for the loss of load of the facility.

EASY SET POINT CHANGE:
Allows calibrating the reference pressure in a way to adjust the equipment so it can deliver on a permanent way a constant pressure. This is useful because it allows the regulation of consumption every time that delivers a lower consumption pressure decreases and vice versa. A network fed with 35 mca of pressure consumes about 60% more water than if it’s pressured with 15 mca.

POWER LIMITATION
In certain circumstances such as when the equipment is being fed through a generator or to limit the demand of electricity in peak hours, it is required that the pumping system has a limitation of power, meaning that does not allow that the power demanded exceeds a certain level.
In the example above, in the case of the system with hydropneumatic pumps that sum 35 hp, it requires a group generator of about 50 KVA, besides fulfilling the consumption it must be considered a greater capacity for flows departures of the engines.
However, to count the machine with limited power it can be calibrated in 10 KVA which the support group can only be 10 Kva since there is no excess of current in the starts and can be lowered until the third part (or less) the maximum flow in the period of emergency. In other words requires a rather smaller group generator.

PROTECTION OF HIGH FLOW CONSUMPTION:
In case of exceeding a predetermined level of water consumption (flow) the equipment can alert and / or stop. This is very useful as it can detect leaks in the network.

MAXIMUM CONTROL AND CONNECTIVITY:
These equipments allow their connection through their serial door RS-485 with any control system. Furthermore through its screen it’s possible to consult more than 28 variables and operating parameters such as pressure, flow, voltage, power, energy, speed, hours of operation, etc.

PBP SYSTEM ADVANTAGES

According to the past magazine of current systems in use it is concluded that the PBP pressurization systems, based on varying the speed of the pumps have an advantage over the others. These are:

1.- Minor investment when compared with solutions with high ponds.

2.- Best quality of service. Constant pressure.

3.- It occupies less space than hydropneumatic systems

4.- Lower cost of maintenance

5.- Lower energy consumption.

6.- Less power installed.

7.- Less water consumption

8.- Advanced Features.

In small equipments the value of these is much higher than hydropneumatic systems; however in equipment of superior power than 8 Kw already have similar values. Over 20 Kw of power the value of the equipment based on this technology is lower than the hydropneumatics. By capitalizing on the savings of space and energy, the balance should be produced on power in order of 3 Kw.
